St. Patrick’s Day & March Madness: The Ultimate March Travel Excuses!

March is easily one of my favorite months of the year. It’s packed with two of the most fun, high-energy events of the year: St. Patrick’s Day and March Madness. And both offer the perfect excuse to plan a getaway with family, friends, or even a multigenerational crew.

If you’ve been waiting for a reason to travel this month… this is it.

🍀 St. Patrick’s Day Getaways

Whether you want full-on festive or just a touch of Irish charm, this holiday creates incredible travel experiences.

🇮🇪 Go Big: Ireland
There’s nothing like celebrating in Ireland itself. Think parades, traditional music, historic castles, and lively pubs. Dublin hosts one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day festivals in the world. It’s perfect for families with teens or friend groups looking for unforgettable energy.

🇺🇸 Stateside Celebrations
Not ready for an international flight? Cities across the U.S. go all out:

  • Chicago – Famous for dyeing the Chicago River green.
  • Boston – Deep Irish heritage and one of the oldest parades in the country.
  • Savannah – A charming Southern celebration with serious festive spirit.

For families with teens and young adults, these cities combine history, culture, and just enough fun to keep everyone engaged.

🏀 March Madness Travel

If basketball is your family’s love language, March is prime time for a sports-centered trip. The NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament (aka March Madness) transforms host cities into electric hubs of energy. Even if your team isn’t playing, the atmosphere is unbeatable. A few years ago we spent the first couple of rounds in Greenville, South Carolina, and it was a blast!

This year’s host destinations are:

First Four - Dayton, Ohio

First/Second Rounds - Buffalo, NY; Greenville, SC; Oklahoma City; Portland, OR; Tampa; Philadelphia; San Diego; St. Louis

Regionals - Houston; San Jose, CA; Chicago; Washington DC

Final Four - Indianapolis

Travel ideas:

  • Plan a long weekend around early-round games in host cities.
  • Organize a friends’ trip to watch the Sweet 16 or Elite Eight live.
  • Book a Final Four experience and turn it into a bucket-list sports getaway.

Whether you're chasing shamrocks or buzzer-beaters, March gives you a reason to gather your favorite people and go somewhere memorable.

So tell me: are you more 🍀 or 🏀 this month?

Hit reply and let me know where you're headed (or where you wish you were headed!).

✈️ Happy March Travels,
Kirsten

Where to Travel When the World Feels Like a Mess (Because It Kind of Is)

Let’s be honest, lately, the world feels…a little chaotic. Between the headlines, the stress, and the constant noise, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. While we can’t fix everything, we can choose where we go and how we spend our time. Travel won’t solve the world’s problems, but it can give you space to breathe, reconnect, and remember what’s good. If you’re craving a reset (and honestly, who isn’t?), here are the kinds of places worth putting on your radar right now. Go Where Nature Does the...

Unforgettable Summer Trips for People Who Are Over the Usual Tourist Traps

If the idea of packed beaches, high gas prices, and long lines has you second-guessing your summer plans… you’re not alone. This year, we’re leaning into bucket list adventures that feel a little more unique. We’re thinking about the kind of trips that bring your group together, spark curiosity, and create stories you’ll be talking about for years. Speaking of unique, I just returned from a week long barge cruise through Burgundy, France with my sister. I cannot say enough good things about...
